Originally from Sioux Falls in South Dakota, 27-year-old Nguyen took a two year sabbatical from the US regional circuit and relocated to Thailand and then Brisbane, and during that time he has rattled of seven straight victories to take his record to 14-5.

His 25-second knockout of Julian Wallace at Nitro MMA 11 at the Logan Entertainment Centre went viral in late 2014, after the heavily-tattooed Wallace tried to intimidate Nguyen at the weight in, a tactic that backfired spectacularly.

However Nguyen is no viral flash-in-the-pan, no internet gimmick. He is, quite simply, the real deal and one of the best Australian prospects in the game.

His last victory came over Ryan Benoit at UFC 193, with Nguyen landing a picture perfect combination on the American before finishing him on the ground with a rear-naked choke.

Nguyen's two UFC fights have resulted in two first-round stoppages, but his opponent for Brisbane, Justin Scoggins, is a much harder puzzle to solve.

Scoggins should be a familiar name for Brisbane fight fans, as the 11-2 karate fighter made his UFC debut in Brisbane in 2013, defeating Richie Vaculik in a controversial decision that earned referee Steve Perceval the ire of the Brisbane crowd for the rest of the night.

While he has lost two of his last four, his victory over the highly-touted Ray Borg last Sunday showed that Scoggins has refined his game, in particular his takedown defence, allowing him to dominate Borg on the feet.

Following the fight, the previously unranked Scoggins leapt to 12 in the flyweight rankings and if Nguyen can get past the American, it is not unreasonable to expect Nguyen could become the first Australian fighter ranked at flyweight.
