This year, Ms Kenna was given a Legend award during the Mount Isa Australia Day Awards ceremony.
She has been credited with improving the town’s school attendance by making sure the children are awake, fed and dressed for school.
“This service in itself brings security to the kids and gives them confidence,” Mount Isa Mayor Tony McGrady read during the ceremony.
Cr Seymour said that Ms Kenna cares “from the littlest baby to the oldest elders”.
“She makes sure that all the kids are given a chance to obtain an education and has a watchful eye on their health issues.” Ms Kenna was credited to raising the attendance record at Camooweal School.
26 of the 52 students had an attendance rate between 95 to 100 per cent through her kindness. “Minnie became who she wanted to be, a person that is deeply respected and love that is big as the ocean,” Cr Seymour said.
