This means that the business chamber’s manager Sue Wicks leaves her position on March 10.
Ms Wicks initially began her position in a caretaker capacity in February last year after the resignation of her predecessor, and immediately worked on the organising of the 2015 MINEX.
The former Glencore senior training and development advisor returns to the running of her training and education provider business, Wick-Ed.
“My Plan A was to stay at the chamber for as long as it takes to deliver another awesome Business Awards and a freaking amazing Mining Expo 2017, and beyond,” Ms Wicks said on social media.
“However, Commerce North West, like many other small businesses in the region, have made some changes to remain sustainable in the current economic environment.”
The announcement was mentioned in the chamber’s email update to members last Thursday with quotes from acting president Richard Harvey, a chief processing officer at Glencore.
President Travis Crowther is currently campaigning to be councillor in the Mount Isa local government election.
Mr Harvey said the decision did not mean any alterations to the chamber’s programs or to members’ benefits.
“Commerce North West will continue to provide Buy Local Gift Cards, and can give assurance that the funds for reimbursement of these gift cards is secure,” Mr Harvey said.
The chamber will also continues its Buy Local raffle draw to encourage shoppers to spend their money in Mount Isa.
“The regular members’ meetings and popular networking events will also continue,” he said.
The Northern Outback Business Awards continues in October 2016.
This is the first year MINEX will not be held since the decision to make it biennial.
The acting president said preparations already begin for the 2017 expo.
