The mayor attended the meeting with the council’s chief executive officer David Neeves before his position was officially declared through the Queensland Electoral Commission.
“But the returning officer has as good as declared it locally, it’s beyond doubt,” Councillor Campbell said.
“It feels fantastic...now it’s down to business and the hard work begins – the real hard work.”
The Ergon scheduler will take leave while starting his mayoral role and will have further discussions with the company regarding his type of role in the future.
Cr Campbell said he was able to use the RDA meeting to catch-up with Mr Neeves and learn of the main concerns and issues. “I’ve got a lot to get to speed on, it’s going to be a very busy few weeks,” Cr Campbell said.
The mayor will informally meet with shire staff this week before a formal council meeting on Tuesday, April 5.
