The Australian world No.26 maintained his streak of straight-sets wins on Tuesday with a 7-6 (7-3), 6-3 victory over Russian Andrey Kuznetsov to secure a last-eight berth at a masters event for the first time.

However, Kyrgios found himself in trouble in the first set after chair umpire Cedric Mourier called a code violation against Kyrgios for swatting a ball, tossed his way by a ball person, into the stands.

At the change of ends Kyrgios complained that a big-name player, such as 14-time major champion Rafael Nadal, would not have been sanctioned for such an action.

"Anyone else, like Rafa, did that you would keep it cool," Kyrgios told the umpire. "This game is biased as anything. You all know it as well. It's biased as shit, this game. What else has it got to hide? It's ruined. Absolutely ruined."

Kyrgios said after the match he stood by the comments.

Kyrgios was fined $25,000 and hit with a suspended 28-day ban last year after he used derogatory language about Stanislas Wawrinka's girlfriend during a match. He was also fined for complaining about the "f---ing surface" at the Shanghai Masters in October.

Kyrgios will take on a familiar foe, big-serving Canadian Milos Raonic, for a place in the Miami Masters semi-finals.

Kyrgios' win over Kuznetsov will see him climb to at least world No.22 when the rankings are next released, which would surpass his previous highest mark of No.25, which he reached last June.

​In reaching the last eight, Kyrgios became the first Australian to do so in Miami since Lleyton Hewitt in 2002.
