Lance Franklin and several Sydney players are set to cop a fine from the AFL's match review panel after a melee at half-time sparked by the star forward's tackle.

Tempers frayed at the start of the main break as Franklin slung Carlton defender Zach Tuohy to the ground after the siren had sounded.

An angry Tuohy remonstrated by shoving Franklin before the pair were besieged by players from both side rushing in to fly the flag. A wrestle then ensued behind the goals, just inches away from the Swans' cheer squad.

The incident marred a comfortable 10-goal victory for the Swans, after which coach John Longmire warned his impressive newcomers there will be dips in their performances this year despite the strong starts they have made to their careers.

For the second week in a row, the Swans' youngsters played a key role in a massive victory, setting the scene for a mouth-watering derby on Saturday against Greater Western Sydney.

One of only four unbeaten sides after two rounds, the Swans are second on the ladder with a massive percentage of 212.

While there were some outstanding performances from familiar faces like Kieren Jack, Luke Parker and Dan Hannebery, the Swans' kids shone brightly again.

Tom Mitchell was close to best afield, Tom Papley kicked another two goals while Callum Sinclair played a key role in the ruck.

There is a perception the Swans have one of the oldest teams in the league but the reality is different. The club lost Adam Goodes, Mike Pyke and Rhyce Shaw to retirement last year and have captain Jarrad McVeigh, Sam Reid, and Gary Rohan unavailable to injury.

It has paved the way for the Swans to invest in youth but Longmire said age was not a criteria when it came to selection.

"We don't look at the birth certificates of our playing group when we come to team selection," Longmire said.

"We don't look at that and never have. If they're doing he right thing and playing the sort of footy they should be playing they'll get rewarded.

"Sometimes not immediately, sometimes they've got to keep persisting at it, but when those opportunities come and they grab those opportunities in the senior team they often stay there.

"As with all younger players it's not always a straight ride. It goes up and down a little bit, we've got to be prepared for that and younger players their expectations have got to be prepared for that too.

"But if they play to their strengths, which we encourage all of the time with all our players, it's all you can ask."

Tom Mitchell was close to best on ground with his game-high 34 possessions but Longmire stopped short of declaring it the midfielder's best game.

"It's not just about the possessions, he's played some really good roles for us over the years and hasn't had as many possessions," Longmire said.

"He's in pretty good form, he knows where to get it."

Veteran Ben McGlynn will push hard for senior selection after playing well in the reserves but the Swans are unlikely to have any other injured senior stars available for the clash with the Giants.
