This years teams include: Blackstars, Wanderers, Town, Brothers, Cloncurry Eagles and Normanton Stingers.
Mount Isa Rugby League spokesperson, Bruce Nott, believed the competition this season would be strong.
“Coming off the back of the grand final last year between Town and Wanderers, it is set to be another great year of football,” he said.
Wanderers are looking for their third consecutive premiership with the other five teams looking to clear their streak. Wanderers have had a few older players retire but look to still be competitive throughout the season. Entering their season year in the competition Brothers look to be the surprise package, compiling a solid side. Many are interested to see what this team can produce this year.
At training this week Blackstars look to have accumulated good numbers and are looking to have another competitive season. Town have had some new faces join the team and are a favourite to be up the top of the leader board again this year. Cloncurry Eagles have also accumulated new players and look to have a comfortable and strong side.
Normanton Stingers have been hard to beat at home previously putting up a solid fight for the win. Normanton have a few young players coming through the ranks and look to be knocking on the door this season.
Nott said his early pick for the grand final would be Town and Wanderers.
“There is still 15 rounds to scale the leader board ahead of finals in September. Teams are still looking for players, if anyone is interested have a chat to the team coordinators,” he said.
Town and Blackstars train Tuesday and Thursday, Wanderers and Brothers train Monday and Wednesday.
