Richmond have responded to their stunning capitulation against Collingwood by dropping three players for Saturday's clash against Adelaide at Etihad Stadium.
Big man Ben Griffiths, former GWS hardman Jacob Townsend and stopper Taylor Hunt have all been omitted from the Tigers' side which faded late last Friday night, losing to the Magpies by a point. They join injured defender Dylan Grimes in losing their places in Damien Hardwick's side. Richmond have recalled veteran defender Troy Chaplin, livewire Shane Edwards, and youngsters Daniel Rioli and Ben Lennon.
After thrashing Port Adelaide in last weekend's Showdown, the Crows have named an unchanged team for the trip to Melbourne.
Essendon have rewarded the 22 players that toppled Melbourne last weekend, with coach John Worsfold keeping the same side for Friday night's match against the Power at Adelaide Oval. The depleted Power have selected Darcy Byrne-Jones for his debut, while Karl Amon and Paul Stewart are also included. Port have dumped Dougal Howard, while Alipate Carlile (wrist) and Chad Wingard (hamstring) are both unavailable.
Having conceded that they perhaps erred in selecting Angus Brayshaw for the match against the Dons, the Demons have dropped the emerging midfielder ahead of Sunday's date with North Melbourne in Hobart. Brayshaw struggled on his return to the senior side against the Bombers in what was his first AFL appearance since a knee injury during Melbourne's NAB Challenge opener against Port Adelaide. Veteran defender Colin Garland has also paid the price for the Demons' loss, axed for the trip to the Apple Isle. Lynden Dunn, Billy Stretch, Sam Frost and Jack Grimes join elevated rookie Josh Wagner as inclusions in Melbourne's 25-man squad.
North have named experienced backman Scott Thompson at centre half-back after he was a late omission from the Kangaroos team which beat the Brisbane Lions at the Gabbas last Saturday. Trent Dumont and Aaron Mullett have both been named on the extended bench for Brad Scott's unbeaten outfit.
Three-time premiership player Liam Shiels could return for Hawthorn in Sunday's blockbuster clash against ladder-leaders the Western Bulldogs. Midfielder Shiels injured his wrist in the pre-season, but has been named on the Hawks' seven-man bench for the match. Neither side has yet removed a player from their respective winning combinations last weekend. Hawthorn have also added young ruckman Marc Pittonet and draftee Blake Hardwick to their 25-man squad. The unbeaten Dogs have included Tom Campbell, Joel Hamling and Lin Jong on their extended bench.
Geelong have named promoted rookie Tom Ruggles to debut in Sunday's match against the Lions at Simonds Stadium. The Cats have meanwhile named injury-prone goalsneak Daniel Menzel in the forward pocket, while George Horlin-Smith and Nakia Cockatoo are added to the seven-man bench. Jordan Murdoch will miss the game with soreness.
The Lions have recalled Mitch Robinson, who missed the loss to Kangaroos with a calf issue sustained in round one. Youngsters Nick Robertson, Liam Dawson and Billy Evans are all named on the extended bench, the latter of whom was elevated to the senior list on Thursday in place of injured tall Sam Skinner.
Carlton have included Irishman Ciaran Byrne, as well as Dylan Buckley and Mark Whiley for Saturday night's encounter against Gold Coast at Metricon Stadium. Andrejs Everitt and Jed Lamb will miss the match with injury, while Simon White has been dropped.
