Managed by Mount Isa Aquatics and owned by Mount Isa City Council, Splashez Aquatic Centre has been experiencing water turbidity – or cloudiness- which has become a safety issue.
Mayor, Joyce McCulloch, said she had been fully informed of the technical issues, and said the issue had not yet been identified.
“Pool specialists are currently investigating with a view to resolve the problem as soon as possible,” Cr McCulloch said.
“I fully understand the concern of our residents not being able to use the facility. This is the outback, and we have no other option for swimming and aquatic activities.
“I can guarantee that council is doing everything we can to fix the issue. At this point it is likely to be an unexpected early failure of the filter, or a chlorination issue.
“The filter was due to be replaced during the winter closure, and it will be very unfortunate if it has failed before it was expected to.”
Cr McCulloch said council were working with the facilities managers, Mount Isa Aquatics, to resolve the issue and have the pool open as soon as possible.
“The pool is one of council’s most important and utilised facilities, and there is no way that we want to see it close temporarily, and residents can be assured that we are doing everything we can to identify and resolve this issue.”
