Godolphin's jockey James McDonald had the ideal warm-up for the final group 1 day of the autumn as he rode his 100th winner for the season and kicked home the first five on the card at Warwick Farm.
McDonald rode Radcliffe, Montignac, Duca Valentinois and Reincarnate in the blue silks before adding Viaductress to his haul in his first ride for Michael Costa.
"That's why you get him when you can because he is the best," Costa said.
McDonald, who last month passed 1200 winners for his career, was staring down the barrel of riding the program but Careless and Mesa, favourite in the last, couldn't add to his total.
"It was rolling there for a while," McDonald said. "It is the perfect way to get ready for Saturday because they say you're only as good as your last day and this one was pretty good.
"My confidence is right up and going into Saturday and I have a couple of really good rides."
McDonald's personal best is six winners for a day. Wednesday was the third time he was ridden five in Australia. The other two included group 1 winners: on BMW day last year, where he won on Hartnell and Metropolitan day, when Magic Hurricane capped his afternoon in October.
He is in rare form with 17 winners from last 50 rides and rides favourites Old North, Pearls and Havana Cooler in the major support races on Saturday's Randwick program.
However focus of his afternoon will be Kermadec in the All Aged Stakes and Obscura in the Champagne Stakes. He is confident Kermadec can return to his best.
"I'm really looking forward to getting on him," McDonald said. "I know he was poor in the Doncaster but there were excuses for that and if he runs up to his second to Winx in the [George] Ryder, he would be the one to beat.
"He has the best weight-for-age form in the race and he is a weight-for-age horse and I expect to go close on him."
While Street Cry colt Obscura remains a maiden after two starts, McDonald believes he is a stayer in the making and will run out a tough mile.
"He is going enjoy getting to the mile and we will be running on. The question is does he have the class at that level," he said.
McDonald went to 80 Sydney winners for the season at Warwick Farm and has set his sights on breaking into triple figures in the metropolitan area for the term.
"I have set a goal to do it but it might be a bit hard, after Saturday I'm having a week off and then there is Brisbane and following that I'm going to Royal Ascot and England for a month," McDonald said.
