Melanie Floyd, 28, was found unconscious at her unit in Brisbane's inner north on Wednesday afternoon.
The hospitality worker had suffered critical head injuries.
She died in hospital overnight Saturday, after her family made the heartbreaking decision to turn off her life support.
She never regained consciousness.
Her 24-year-old boyfriend, who called emergency services to her Windsor unit about 1.30pm Wednesday, told police he woke to found her unconscious on their bed.
He has since refused to co-operate with the investigation and police say public assistance could be the key to solving the mystery of Ms Floyd's death.
While police are yet to formally identify the 24-year-old as a suspect in Ms Floyd's death, it is now a murder investigation.
Channel Nine has reported the man to be a PhD candidate at the University of Queensland.
He has also reportedly engaged the services of a lawyer.
Paramedics rushed Ms Floyd to the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital on Wednesday, where family members rushed to her bedside.
However, on the advice of doctors, her family members decided on Saturday to turn off her life support.
She passed away soon after.
Disbelieving friends have taken to social media to mourn the young woman's passing.
"Absolutely Lost for words. Today I say goodbye to one of my best friends Melanie Floyd," wrote Jay Humphries.
"Never had I met someone as caring and loving as you. You taught me everything I needed to know on how to be an adult- without you I wouldn't be in the position I am today with my career.
"Absolutely shattered. RIP Mel will miss you so much."
Ms Floyd's death is the third of a woman in her own home in Queensland's south east in less than three weeks.
On March 31, Kippa Ring mother-of-four Sandra Peniamina, 29, died of multiple stab wounds, allegedly inflicted by her husband, Arona, 35, who has been charged with her murder.
Just five days later, on the morning of April 4, mother-of-six Michelle Reynolds, 46, was also allegedly stabbed to death by her partner, Wayne Ashley O'Sullivan, 47, at their home in Rosewood, west of Ipswich.
Mr O'Sullivan has been charged with her murder.
