The Festival is proving more than a match for the Big Apple after the New York Post published a video on its website called “Australia's best butt competition is full of sad pancakes”.
The paper claimed that “based on the footage, unfortunately, Australia's behinds are nothing to get excited (about).”
Complete with stock standard images of koalas and the Sydney Harbour Bridge the video claimed Australia loved to “show off its booty” before launching into footage that the Dirt N Dust Festival released of the semi-finals of the female and male best butt competition on Saturday.
The New York Post said this was “Australia’s” best butt challenge before saying: “We gotta be honest Australia, if these are your ‘best’ butts, you’ve got some posterior work to do”.
However the Dirt N Dust Festival took the criticism in its stride even thanking the New York Post for posting the video before taking a sideswipe at some American failings.
“We see you weren't brave enough to show any video footage of our Grand Finals, only the heats,” the Festival posted on the New York Post Facebook page (complete with smile emoticons).
“That's understandable, because the booty game would have put you all to shame (smile emoticon).
“From the country that brought you Steve Irwin, koalas, proper football, gun control, fresh air, and happiness (smile emoticon) #micdrop #weout.”
The New York Post is owned by Rupert Murdoch, who gave away his Australian citizenship in order to chase American booty.
