A final selection meeting will be held on Tuesday morning, however Fairfax Media understands there was a team pencilled in on Monday night before the end of the round of matches.
Suspension and injury have deprived Gallen of a Test jumper in recent years, with speculation rife the Sharks captain would be left out of the new Meninga regime.
However Meninga will avoid accusations south of the border of being biased to his former Queensland players, set to name the Cronulla lock in the squad to play New Zealand in a one-off Test in Newcastle on May 6.

The premiership-winning Cowboys front row of James Tamou and Matt Scott will start up front after a blistering start to the season for North Queensland.
It is understood Sam Thaiday and Matt Gillett will get the nod in the back row ahead of the Cowboys' Gavin Cooper, despite possessing a lethal combination with Thurston at club level.
Corey Parker is tipped to beat Gallen to the No.13 jersey in a team that will be named five days out from when the team gathers in Sydney on Sunday night.
Canterbury enforcer David Klemmer will maintain his representative footprint with a spot on the bench despite a hot and cold start to the year for the Bulldogs.
The utility position will go to in-form Cowboys five-eighth Michael Morgan, who will make his Test debut alongside the Parramatta winger.
Canberra's Josh Papalii, who was left out of Meninga's Queensland State of Origin team for the first two games of the series last year, has also earned a bench spot and is likely to fight with Cooper for the final bench position.
The Kangaroos team will gather in Coogee on Sunday night before fulfilling media commitments in Sydney on Monday morning.
The team will then head to Newcastle to prepare for the one-off Test match before the end-of-season Four Nations tournament in the United Kingdom.
