Canberra Raiders prop Shannon Boyd says a Ricky Stuart "rocket" fired himself and Paul Vaughan up for the Wests Tigers thrashing, but now they have to produce that same effort week-in, week-out - starting with his 50th NRL game, against the Penrith Panthers in Bathurst on Saturday.

And Boyd said a strong game against the Panthers would help his claims for a spot in the City-Country game in Tamworth on May 8.

Vaughan and Boyd dominated the Wests props last weekend and both scored tries as they each amassed more than 320 metres between them.

Stuart challenged the pair to produce following the Raiders' 40-16 loss to the Cronulla Sharks the previous week.

It certainly had the desired effect and Boyd was now determined to ensure it wasn't a one-off and became a weekly occurrence.

He'll make his 50th NRL appearance and in a nice touch it will come at Bathurst, which is not far from his home town of Cowra.

"[Stuart] had a talk to all of us [after the Sharks game] and told us what we had to individually to be better and a big thing is us forwards starting well," Boyd said.

"He gave me and Vaughany a bit of a rocket. I think it helped. It makes you realise you're not doing the right thing. It was a good thing for us and we need it more often.

"Consistency is a big thing. If you look at the Broncos and the Cowboys, they're always consistent, they always turn up and do the same thing so we've got to be more like that and make sure we don't leak too many points each week and we'll be right."

The Panthers game is the last chance to impress before City-Country, which had four Raiders playing in it last year - including Blake Austin's man-of-the-match performance.

Raiders captain Jarrod Croker, Jack Wighton and Vaughan all played, while Boyd was 18th man for Country.

While Boyd was focussed on Raiders, he said a good performance against the Panthers would help his claims to make the Country side.

"I'm just trying to play good footy for the club at the moment and if I get picked it will be a bonus, but at the moment I'm just trying to concentrate on getting a win for ourselves," he said.

"Yeah definitely [I'd like to press my claims though], especially being back home too, 50 games for me.

"I'll hopefully have a good game and trying to rip in."

Stuart has named an unchanged line-up from the 60-6 Wests walloping, although he has brought former New Zealand prop Frank-Paul Nuuausala onto an extended bench.

That could be to cover either Luke Bateman or Joe Tapine.

The former was sick on Tuesday, while Tapine injured his ankle against the Tigers.

Canberra will expect to be in a close one against the Panthers, who's biggest margin has been their eight-point loss to the Raiders in round one.
