The salon started their Make a Difference Day last month, with an aim to donate a total of $15,000 to different local services by the end of the year. Wednesday’s takings saw $1248 donated to Jangawala.
Jangawala is a service that provides lunch and dinner to local homeless and itinerant people in Mount Isa. The service provides lunches to on average 35 people per day during the week and dinners on the weekend and is almost entirely funded and staffed by volunteers.
Classique Hair and Beauty owner, Owen MacNamara, said they were happy to donate the day’s takings to the local service provider.
“With colder weather on its way it was even more of an issue to ensure that less fortunate Mount Isa residents a place where they can be guaranteed a nutritious meal served by caring people,” Mr MacNamara said.
“We are so very happy to help in the best way we know how and that is making some money with our talents to put towards them providing their service.
“We will decide with Jangawala if we will give them the cash or give them the amount in food vouchers.”
Last month Classique Hair and Beauty donated their proceeds to the North West Queensland Mental Health Network and after accumulating the donations together, the salon has donated over $3000 in two months making their goal still within reach.
“There are lots of charity organisations and groups in Mount Isa that do fantastic work for the local community, but they don’t get a lot of money.
“We are all locals we all see people struggling and here in Isa we have an economic downturn but fortunately there is no downturn in hairdressing so we want to do our part to help the local community.
“Groups like these find it hard to receive funding so they really need to rely on the good graces of people from in the community to support them.”
Jangawala supervisor, Chris Gillic, was overwhelmed to receive the donation and thanked the staff highly for their generous donation.
