Trainer Jason Coyle believes Berry Delicious has a group win in her and belongs in Saturday's Godolphin Crown at Hawkesbury.
He points to last preparation when she was third in Peeping's Golden Pendant win, which would make the $41 odds on offer for Saturday at Ladbrokes look lucrative.
"She is up to running in these black type races and that's why she came back at this time of year," Coyle said.
"She won those three in a row in the winter last year and then we kept her going and gave her a shot at some nice races. She didn't have the best of luck in some of them but the run behind Peeping shows what she can do if she gets the right run.
"She already has the black type placing so we are hoping to add a win in a race like this one to that and there is a good series of races for her at this time of the year."
Berry Delicious wasn't fancied in the Sapphire Stakes when she failed to get into the race on from well back in the field and finished 12th of 14. Coyle believes she will improve into her campaign.
"She is better for that run and it was OK in a slowly run affair, even though it looks bad on paper, " he said.
"I think the step up to 1300 metres is going to suit her better and hopefully they will go along bit more, so she can find the line.
"She always improves second-up and we are looking to take her to some of those group races in Brisbane, if she shows she is up to it. If not, we drop back to benchmark class but I think she is better than that."
The Godolphin Crown is a wide-open betting affair with a group of mares that will see a lot of each other over the coming months.
Fitou, from the John O'Shea yard, who finished her last preparation with a couple of wins and returned at Warwick Farm a couple of weeks ago, is the $5 favourite after drawing well in gate six.
"She's shown us that she's coming back to her form of last preparation when she won a couple in a row," O'Shea said. "This race suits, she likes the 1300 metre trip and she has a good gate."
However it would not surprise to see a change at the top of betting with Nancy, $5.50 and Role Model and last start winner Ammirata on the $7 line.
Even Sapphire Stakes winner Two Blue ($9.50) is part of half the field under the $10 quote.
