Organisers Bek Moore and Emma Harman observed that numbers were down compared to last year’s inaugural event.
They were happy with the vibe of the event and they would hold it again next year.
They held Colours for Cancer to raise money for the Shitbox Car Rally – aimed at raising money for cancer research.
They drive a donated car from Mackay to Hobart in the week long rally which starts on Saturday.
They leave Mount Isa for Mackay on Thursday along with Mrs Harman’s husband Sean, who will drive another car in the rally.
Attendees of the Colours for Cancer event ran, jogged or walked the five kilometre course along the lake, and sprayed each other with paint.
The crowd gathered to release one last burst of colourful paint before the event finished.
The event began shortly after 8.30am – but by the end of the run the participants were feeling the heat. The Bureau of Meteorology recorded the local temperature at 34.1 degrees by 11am.
Ms Moore and Mrs Harman estimated that they raised about $10,000 from the event.
“Before the event we donated over $5000 from ticket sales but we haven’t covered the costs. We won’t know the total amount until later in the week,” Ms Moore said.
Ms Moore said she was involved in the Colours for Cancer event because of how much cancer affects so many people of all ages.
The Mount Isa Hospital nurse has witnessed the harsh realities of cancer.
“I see what cancer does to people.
“I watched them suffer, I watch families be separated from it.
“We need to find a cure.”
