By the time you read this I will have completed the charity ride known as The Tour De Cure.

A 10 day bike ride that starts in Brisbane and traversing 1520km till we roll into the city centre of Sydney. All to help raise money for a cure for cancer.

For me this cause is very close to my heart, my father was diagnosed with prostate cancer, the following week my brother was diagnosed with testicular cancer. Both went through major treatment. My Brother was lucky enough to have caught it early and fought the battle and is now living a healthy and vibrant life, my father not so lucky.

After seven years, massive amount of treatment, the disease got him in the end. Within six months we got news that my husband’s mother had cancer which riddled her body and had two weeks to live. This was a shock, she was a vibrant, strong woman. In 6 months we had buried two parents due to cancer.

In the past couple of years I have had an Aunty very much like a second mother to me pass and 6 very beautiful women all diagnosed with breast cancer, two are in remission and four are going through the process of fighting. Which I am positive they will all get through it.

Watching what cancer does to the human body is not something I would like anyone to see or go through in a lifetime. This had a profound effect on me and I wanted to use my experience to do something positive to help eradicate this disease.

Four years ago when I watched the documentary on Sunrise I thought to myself WOW, wouldn’t that be awesome to do one day. Never thinking I would actually have the skills or fitness to do something like this. I am privileged to be accepted and to be a part of this endeavour.

For the last six months I have trained hard, watched my diet, listened to my body, fundraised $12,000. Juggled work, business, family and domestic duties to reach a goal I never thought possible.

The journey so far has been at times challenging and emotional. Balancing and mastering endurance training and fuelling my body to be the strongest it can will enable me to give this ride all I have both physically and mentally.  When your goals are personal they on a life of their own and the driving force to get there is extraordinary.
