But Mr Graham anticipated a roll-out of commitments for the region from government and opposition leaders in the lead-up to the federal election on July 2.
He also noted the $9.5 million addition to the $25 million National Water Infrastructure Fund.
There were 60 applications to fund infrastructure proposals and the Cave Hill Dam site in Cloncurry was one of these.
The $9.5 million addition increased the chances that the Cave Hill Dam site was chosen but Mr Graham said that it was likely that between 12 to 15 of the 60 proposals would be chosen on the basis that each proposal cost between one and two million dollars each.
“Once the feasibility study is done the next step is to try to get funding to build the thing,” Mr Graham said.
$2 billion has been allocated for the National Water Infrastructure Loan Facility in the budget to support major infrastructure projects over 10 years, Deputy Prime Minister Barnaby Joyce announced.
