Western Bulldogs coach Luke Beveridge is hopeful the inclusion this week of Jack Redpath will help to rectify the Bulldogs' recent attacking efficiency issues, but says the Dogs must be careful not to have an "over-correction" and regress defensively.

While the Bulldogs (4-2) have conceded the least points of any side in the AFL this season, they rank last for points scored out of current top-eight teams.

Redpath was recalled for his first game of the season, joining Caleb Daniel as inclusions for Saturday night's clash with in-form Adelaide at Etihad Stadium. The pair replace Koby Stevens who has an abdominal strain, and Lin Jong, who was dropped.

The match is the sides' first meeting since the Crows edged the Dogs in last year's elimination final. On that occasion both sides reached triple figures, however Beveridge's side has kicked more than 100 points only twice in six rounds this season, and is yet to concede a ton.

The Bulldogs are still without key forward Tom Boyd, but decided to add Redpath after managing just six majors in last weekend's loss to North Melbourne.

Beveridge denied the Dogs had employed an overly-defensive game in 2016, arguing that the issue was more about working better when going forward.

"It's not like we've gone all defensive, we just haven't been able to capitalise on the opportunities we've created," Beveridge said at the Whitten Oval on Friday.

"We have put a lot of work into another significant phase of the game this week. Now our challenge is to ensure we don't have an over-correction and lose something elsewhere.

"This week has been all about correcting a few things, particularly how we use the footy."

Beveridge said the seven-point loss to the Crows in September had served his team well in the long-run.

"We're always trying to look forward, but there's no doubt we learnt a lot out of that game last year and it's helped us become a better defensive side.

"The combination of scoring and defence is still a work in progress."

Beveridge added that the 194 centimetre Redpath deserved his return to the seniors, having started the season in the VFL following pre-season surgery.

"His form has been pretty good at VFL level, [so] he's earned his chance to come in," the coach said.

"We're probably a little bit bigger than we have been with Jordan [Roughead], Tom Campbell and now [Redpath], and probably a bit bigger in our backline.

"It's a different approach, a different model forced by unavailable important and talented players on our list.

"I think we've got a really strong side going into this game."

Beveridge also said that midfielder Lachie Hunter was set to play despite being taken to hospital following the loss to the Roos, a result of a coathanger from Lindsay Thomas which led to the goalsneak being suspended.

"He's fine. He's good to go, Beveridge said.

"He's done all the testing, no dramas and he'll be ready and raring to go tomorrow night."

Beveridge declined to discuss whether Thomas' one-match ban for rough conduct was fair.
