The hapless ewe, a resident of Kiama Public School’s agricultural yard, became lodged in a low-lying tree fork overnight Friday.
An SES team was called in to free the creature about 8.45am Saturday after a groundskeeper noticed her predicament.
“She was certainly panicking,” said SES team member Andrew McCullough.
“Some time overnight she’s tried to jump through the branches and the gap wasn’t wide enough.
“She was grinding her teeth and stressing out. I’m not sure how long she’d been there."
Volunteers used ratchet straps and hydraulic tools to widen the gap between the tree branches and free the tired mum.
“We gave her some water and food and hopefully she’ll feel better soon,” Mr MuCullough said.
Mr McCullough said the sheep was not known by any one name but she had birthed several lambs and was commonly referred to as “The Mother Sheep”.
He described the sheep’s eyesight as very poor. “I don’t think she can see a whole lot.”
