For the second straight week the Raiders failed to close out a grinding contest in a 16-12 golden point loss to St George Illawarra, with coach Ricky Stuart admitting "we keep beating ourselves".

Canberra was kept scoreless in the first half for the third time in their last five matches, a surprising statistic for a team that scored the third most points in the NRL last year.

Fensom is hoping to be fit for next Saturday's away clash against New Zealand Warriors after having scans on a rotator cuff injury he picked up against the Dragons.

The hard working lock's presence will be crucial against a Warriors side that have won the last five games against Canberra, and have piled on 50 points or more three times.

Despite Canberra losing the error count 15-4, the Dragons needed an intercept golden point try from Euan Aitken to hold off the Raiders.

Many of Canberra's errors come late in the game when trying to run down a deficit.

"You said it all there, we're our own worst enemy," Fensom said. "We've got to stay composed and build some pressure, not get flustered or frustrated and just let it happen.

"We talk about that, we know that's what we've got to do and we'll get to that stage. We spoke about not giving teams a head start, we were chasing points against Penrith (19-18 loss in round nine) and we got behind again.

"We have to be better than that, then we won't be chasing the game at the last minute. It hurts, [losing] those close ones and it's the second week in a row."

Statistics show the youthful Raiders are still learning the art of winning tight contests down the stretch, particularly against teams who rely on strong defence like the Dragons and Panthers.

They have won only three of 12 games decided by six points or less since the start of last season, and also drew with Newcastle in round three this year.

Fensom hurt his left shoulder putting pressure on a Benji Marshall kick but is confident he'll be fit to play the Warriors.

Veteran forwards Sia Soliola (arm) and Jeff Lima (hand) are also a chance to return after long absences.

"It's a bit sore, [but] I've got half decent strength in it and it doesn't feel too bad," Fensom said. "I went to put pressure on Benji and got my shoulder in an awkward position when I hit him, because I was worried about taking him out after he'd kicked the ball.

"We've got good physios here and I'll work around the clock icing it and that sort of thing to get it back on track."

Fensom insisted Canberra won't carry any mental demons across the ditch, despite their horror recent record against the Warriors.

They have been outscored 134-36 in the last three away games against the Warriors.

"I don't think so, we don't think about what's happened in the past," Fensom said. "We'll work hard on what we need to improve on and what their weaknesses are, and where we need to attack."

Stuart has sent an email to NRL referees boss Tony Archer asking for an explanation for a couple of controversial calls he feels led to eight Dragons points.

A huge talking point was the lack of action by the NRL Bunker after replays showed Raiders five-eighth Blake Austin had been hit high by Joel Thompson in the first half.

Coaches, including Stuart, called for the limiting of the Bunker's involvement in checking foul play at a meeting last week, in an attempt to stop players staying down for penalties.

Thompson was charged with a careless high tackle on Friday, and faces one week on the sidelines. 

"You don't know what's going on with that bunker, one week they're ruling on things and the next week they're not," Fensom said.

"Austo's got a very fat nose at the moment, it didn't look good after the game. Obviously he made contact with the head, you could clearly see that, but it is a contact sport and these type of things do happen.

"There are two referees out there but they can't see anything, they don't have eight eyes. There is a lot going on in a game of football and occasionally some of these things won't get picked up."
