The Friday will start off with the maiden draft with $2000 prize money, followed by the Clargie Saltmere Memorial Maiden for Maiden Draft. The juniors will then take to the arena for the junior barrel race followed by the open barrel race.
Finally, 10 of the top riders from the Northern Territory and 10 of the top Queensland campdraft riders will battle to be the best in the battle of the borders campdraft.
Saturday will start off with the Peter Clausen Memorial Novice Campdraft, followed by the restricted opens, mini and juvenile campdraft in the afternoon followed by the rodeo that night.
The rodeo will consist of a non-held calf ride, buckjump, novice bullride, weaner wrangler and a crazy cow ride.
Sunday will feature the Mike MacDonnell Memorial Draft, ladies draft, maiden final, novice final and open draft final.
Camooweal Campdraft and Rodeo secretary, Leeusha Green, said the committee tried to jam pack as much as possible into the three days.
“The most popular event is the maiden, novice and open campdraft. There is plenty of action for the whole family,” Ms Green said.
Friday and Saturday evening have been known to draw a social crowd. With a few sore heads on Saturday morning and some really sore heads on Sunday morning after the rodeo.
There will be plenty of food, drinks and a bar available throughout the weekend and a great chance to let your hair down when the sun goes down. Camping grounds are also available.
“We hope that Camooweal, Mount Isa and everywhere in between can make it out on the weekend. We are predicting nice weather so it should be a good weekend.”
A working be was held in late April and mid-May to set up the arena and prepare for the event.
Ms Green thanked everyone who helped and all the sponsorship received.
“It is those people that help make the weekend happen for everyone to come together, thank you to them,” she said.
Nominations have now closed and the final details for the event and nominations have being finalised.
