The Kangaroos' leadership group consulted with the club's senior management on Monday, before imposing a four-match ban on the small forward after his drink-driving episode in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The suspension was handed down on the same day as North announced that tagger Ben Jacobs would have foot surgery on Tuesday, with the club confident he would return before the finals.

Turner is also expected to incur a significant fine and lose his licence for 13 months after blowing a blood-alcohol reading of .133 when pulled over by police at the weekend.

Turner was due to return to football in three weeks after hurting his hamstring in the round six win over the Western Bulldogs. As a result, his ban won't kick in until his recovery is complete, meaning he is unlikely to return to AFL level until round 17. He will instead play for the club's VFL affiliate Werribee.

North football director Geoff Walsh said the club was disappointed with Turner. "The actions that he decided to take over the weekend were extremely foolish and dangerous to himself and to everyone," Walsh told the club's website.

Coach Brad Scott later echoed those sentiments. "We're bitterly disappointed to put it mildly. He's injured [and] shouldn't be drinking, let alone getting behind the wheel," Scott told 3AW.

Walsh said Turner knew he had erred badly. "I think the realisation of how silly he was has really hit home."

Turner will also be made to undertake education after his offence. "We'll seek out an appropriate community engagement program – something maybe with the TAC or road trauma victims to again try and educate Kayne as to the folly of what he undertook. There'll be two parts of the actual process," Walsh said.

A "remorseful" Turner fronted his teammates after the incident.

Fellow goalsneak Lindsay Thomas was present when Turner spoke, and said the third-year Roo was "disappointed in his actions". "It's disappointing for Kayne. I've had a lot to do with Kayne over the last few years, obviously being a small forward," Thomas said at Arden Street on Monday.

"Kayne will cop his whack from the leadership group. He'll do everything he can to get respect back from the playing group and the coaching staff.

"Everyone makes mistakes. Obviously, he's made one that he'll regret but knowing the person Kayne is, he'll move on, he'll learn from it and play some good footy for us, not just this year but in the years to come."

Thomas insisted he would support Turner, 20, through a difficult period. "One hundred per cent. Not just Kayne but if it was any of my teammates. I don't just see them as my teammates, I see them as my brothers.

"He's a 20-year-old kid who's made a mistake. You can't criticise him for that. Obviously, it's disappointing but we move on from it quickly and he'll learn from it.

"I've got full confidence that Kayne will get back, because he's a great kid."

Jacobs missed Saturday's win over Carlton after scans revealed a small stress fracture in his fifth metatarsal. North say they are confident Jacobs will back by round 20, allowing the midfielder sufficient time to return before the ladder-leaders' likely finals campaign. The midfielder has managed to curb the likes of St Kilda star Jack Steven, Essendon's David Zaharakis and Bulldog Lachie Hunter so far in 2016.
