NSW forward David Klemmer has reignited his war of words with Queensland veteran Corey Parker, declaring he wasn't afforded the same respect his counterpart demanded during a heated exchange in last year's Origin series.

With the pair set to lock horns in the opening game of the series at ANZ Stadium on June 1, Klemmer has opened up over his disappointment in being labelled disrespectful for telling Parker "get f----- you c---" during game two at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

While there was outrage north of the border over how the young NSW enforcer had the audacity to stand up to the Queensland bullies, he was lauded by the Blues inner sanctum.

Klemmer said he had learnt some valuable lessons about his antics on field over the past 12 months, but held no regrets for his exchange with Parker, labelling respect as a two-way street.

"I don't think I was disrespectful," Klemmer said.

"A lot of people came out and said it was disrespectful but if you have people hammering you because you're a young player and they're not showing you respect, why should you show them respect if they don't show you any respect.

"I got taught that at a young age. It doesn't matter who you are, if you're not going to respect someone, why should you show any respect back. That's been my thing since I was a little boy and it's just one of the things I live by."

Klemmer, as described by his close friend and NSW teammate Aaron Woods, has a severe case of white-line fever.

A sporting condition that turns cleanskins into lunatics, or in Klemmer's case, a gentle giant into a raging bull.

"I remember playing with a bloke called Gareth Ellis. He was the politest man you'd ever meet off the field but on the field he wanted to kill people," Woods said.

"That's like Klem. It's white-line fever. Once you get over that line it flicks a trigger in your head and it's on. No one really know what footballers are like. He's a very good bloke, he's a gentleman and he's a family man. People don't understand, people think he's big, tough and angry all the time. Public perception is different to what you see behind closed doors.

"If you saw him with his two boys you'd know what I'm talking about. Klem's a really respectful guy. Off the field he idolises players like that. He's a kid that grew up loving rugby league. He just wanted to get in there and make a name for himself. He wanted to rip in, play hard and play tough. He said a few things probably but what goes on the field stays on the field."

Klemmer's expletive-riddled one-liner came after calls from Parker to "show some respect" following a push and shove in the middle of the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

The pair shook hands after the match, with Klemmer none the wiser as to the debate that would rage from his choice of words.

The Canterbury front-rower was disappointed it made its way out to the public, of the opinion what happens on the field should stay on the field.

"It came out after the game, and I thought it was just on the field, but it came out," Klemmer said.

"What happens on the field stays on the field, from my point of view. But those things happen, things get heated - it's rugby league.

"I was a bit naive back then, but I'll never change. You just live and learn. I haven't spoken to him [Parker] since but after the game we shook hands and that was about it."

Klemmer was surprisingly left out of the Australian team for the one-off Test against New Zealand earlier in the month, overlooked for the bench position in favour of Queenslander Josh McGuire.

His selection would have created an interesting team environment had he been brought into camp with Parker and company, but the 22-year-old insists there would have been no bad blood from his end.

"I'm a professional rugby league player," Klemmer said.

"If anyone wants to carry on with it, it's pretty childish. If I did get picked, you'd be grown up about it. We're grown men. That's my point of view."

Woods believes there's always a place for sledging in rugby league.

"I cop it all the time, that's the best thing about footy, it's like your back in school in the classroom with all your mates," Woods said.

"You rip in, have a laugh but at the end of the game you shake hands and that's it. I copped it when I came into Origin, but what happens on the field stays on the field. Sledging is a part of rugby league and I love that part of the sport, it's awesome."
