Organisers did not expect anywhere near as many as the 440 children and parents that arrived at the themed event.
Children up to eight years had a jumping castle, obstacle course, sideshow alley games, a ball pit and a drum beat workshop, held and put together by various community groups.
Centacare’s senior community worker Jo Frame said the event was well supported by the community, including the schools who bolstered the numbers at the playgroup.
“The way we structured it was that we had all these different activities,” Ms Frame said.
“We aligned services with areas that met their target audience and they interacted with the parents and children.”
Ms Frame said another mega playgroup will be held in Cloncurry but it was unclear when it will be.
“We definitely don’t want to leave it too long.”
