The drive is supported by Community Action for a Multicultural Society (CAMS), and will raise much-needed funds for the people of Sri Lanka following last week’s devastating floods and landslides.
Multicultural support officer Andrea Obeyesekere-Wood said the natural disaster hit close to home for many Mount Isa immigrants.
“A lot of the Sri Lankans in Mount Isa lived in Sri Lanka during the tsunami, so they know how awful a natural disaster can be,” Ms Obeyesekere-Wood said.
The death toll in Sri Lanka currently stands at 92, while over half a million people have been displaced due to the floods and landslides.
