Race 1:
This is an interesting betting race to start the day as there are a variety of different form lines converging.
Fine Mist has opened as a clear favourite, but he does look like a decent risk at the price.
His effort in the Hawkesbury Rush wasn't exceptional and the form coming out of that race has been fairly weak, while the majority of his best performances have been over 1100 metres.
Saluter was given an easy kill first-up and he can progress from that effort, but it would not surprise to see the likes of Rock Royalty, Le Val, Slots, Londehero, Sony Legend or even Pago Rock in the finish.
Race 2:
This is another race in which the favourite looks a touch suspect. Mogador has always promised plenty, but he is yet to really deliver and his winning record is poor.
Kamacite has made a flawless start to his winter campaign and he has the upside to handle the step-up in class. He will put himself right on the speed and is big overs at his current price.
Most Important will likely need the run, but he did produce a number of high rating performances at the end of his summer campaign.
Race 3:
Ghisoni was one of the best things beaten you will ever see in the Arrowfield Sprint and the form coming out of that race has been excellent. She is clearly a filly with plenty of ability and with even luck from the wide draw she will be tough to beat.
Amicus is the obvious danger. She has developed into a fairly inconsistent mare, but she is capable of a high-rating performance on her day and she does run well fresh.
Race 4:
Real Love got the job done well in the JRA Cup and she has the scope to improve on that performance as she heads towards the Brisbane Cup. She will get a dream run in transit.
Junoob and Index Linked are the main dangers, but they will likely be better suited in the Brisbane Cup.
Puccini was poor in the Hollindale Stakes, but it would not surprise to see him produce an improved performance up in trip. All the early money has been for Honey Toast on the back of his career-best effort in the Hollindale Stakes.
Race 5:
This is an interesting edition of the BRC Sires Produce Stakes. It is easy to see why Souchez has come up as a short-priced favourite and he should improve on his more than credible third in the Champagne Classic.
In saying that, there are a number of other horses that bring strong form into this race that are at much longer odds. Attention was good last start and he has already recorded a race win over 1400 metres, while Royal Tithe was excellent in the Ken Russell Memorial Classic and he is another horse that is proven at the trip.
Nikitas was average first-up in the Champagne Classic and he will need to improve significantly if he is going to be a genuine JJ Atkins contender.
Race 6:
Chris Waller has got Amovatio firing this preparation and he comes into this race on the back of a win in the Hawkesbury Cup and a narrow second in the Scone Cup. Rory Hutchings is riding in excellent form and the Al Maher gelding is the horse to beat.
The Prime Minister's Cup wasn't really run to suit Hopfgarten and he can improve up to a mile. Mighty Lucky has form around Amovatio and needs to be included in the exotics.
Race 7:
This is far from the strongest edition of the Doomben 10,000, but this is still an interesting betting race.
Azkadellia will start a clear favourite and there is very little to knock about the mare. She was excellent in both the Doncaster and the Queen Of The Turf, while her recent trial was outstanding. With even luck she will be tough to hold out.
The horse that is currently at big overs is Hooked. This has been a target for trainer John Thompson and he has given the Casino Prince entire three trials ahead of this race. He won the Tramway Stakes fresh last start and he is capable of a spike performance on his day.
The likes of Delectation, Fell Swoop, Dothraki and Music Magnate look to have found their right prices.
Race 8:
Howard Be Thy Name just keeps on improving every time that he goes to the races and he hit a new peak rating to win the South Australian Derby last start. Darren Weir is the master of keeping horses up for long preparations and if he improves again he is the horse to beat.
Mackintosh is the clear danger and a very smart horse in his own right. His racing style is perfect for Doomben and he never looked like getting beaten in the Rough Habit Plate last start.
They look to have a clear edge over the rest of their rivals in this field.
