THE LNP’s commitment to spend almost $1.8 million to further study the possibility of a dam site on the Cloncurry River has been welcomed by the shire mayor.

Greg Campbell said the study will examine the exact type of construction and the quality of surveying needed, and to find out how much the construction cost will be.
“Then they take it to the private sector or government for funding,” Councillor Campbell said.
He hoped the ALP might also consider supporting the dam.
“It’s a project that’s got so much potential, I couldn’t see any reason why the other parties would not jump on board and see the value for what it is, and support it as well,” Councillor Campbell said.
The Cave Hill Dam site is about 20 kilometres upstream of the town.
Cr Campbell said that development group Mount Isa to Townsville Economic Zone (MITEZ) and CSIRO completed earlier studies of the dam site focusing on water catchments and capacity.
