The Waratahs starting side on Friday night was littered with Wallabies representatives, and Gibson said their 45-25 demolition of the Chiefs was set up by a number of his star backs who are finding form at the right time of the year.

Try-machine Israel Folau bagged a double, and so too did inspirational leader Michael Hooper, while halves duo Nick Phipps and Bernard Foley were proficient all around the park in yet another excellent showing.

Gibson can rest easy after the Waratahs kept themselves alive in their quest for a Super Rugby finals spot and says he is looking forward to his in-form NSW stars running riot against England across three Tests in Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney.

"For the last two or three weeks and probably the majority of the season, our best players have been our Wallabies," Gibson said. "Folau is in dominating form at the moment, so too Michael Hooper, Bernard Foley, Nick Phipps. It's all good signs for Australia and particularly going into a series that will be fascinating just for the contest that looms."

There have been minor backline tweaks throughout the year at NSW, but Gibson reiterated the sentiment of his players that consistent game time together will put them in good stead when Wallabies coach Michael Cheika tries to impart his own, yet similar, style of play on them in camp next week.

Gibson was also thrilled with Folau's impact against the Chiefs, saying he of all players will be a force against England.

"I'm not sure what kind of style Cheik is looking to play, but I'm sure it'll be a ball in hand one, so that's a nice alignment for the Wallabies that our best players are going into a national team in some really good form," Gibson said.

"The way we used Israel's high ball strengths, to make sure he's back in catching position on defence and also in attack one pass off Bernard Foley, worked well. We've put him closer to our first receiver to get him the ball sooner. His involvements have certainly gone up and his overall statistics on Friday night were outstanding."

Winger Matt Carraro will be out of action for four to five weeks after tearing his adductor muscle in the Waratahs' resounding win.

It comes at a good time for Carraro though, given NSW do not play again until July 2 in Tokyo against the Sunwolves.

"It's not all doom and gloom for Matt," Gibson said. "He's going to have every chance to finish the season."

The Waratahs will take a week off training to relax and unwind before coming back the following Monday, albeit without players involved in national duties.

Gibson is keen for the squad to feature in as much club rugby as possible, with a number of players, including David Horwitz, running out for their club sides on Saturday in the Shute Shield.

Meanwhile Chiefs coach Dave Rennie has complained about the Super Rugby competition structure, saying it disadvantages New Zealand teams.

Speaking after his side's unexpected 20-point loss to the Waratahs, Rennie was irked by the fact the Chiefs could finish in the top few teams on the overall ladder but be forced to travel for an away final because they might not top the New Zealand conference.

"I think most people would say that there's going to be four quarter-finals and two of them are going to be in Africa. I guess they put a lot of money into it, so that's the way it is," Rennie said. "It would be good if everyone had a bit of a say in how our competition structure looks long term, but when you're trying to please everyone it's pretty difficult. You've just got to try and finish top to get a good run home. We've known about the comp, it is what it is, it just means that if you don't win your conference you're travelling.

"There's a bit of talk about the fact the Stormers, Bulls, they play 15 round robin games and don't have to play a Kiwi side. It's not a bad draw, is it."
