Speculation has been raised around the purchase of underground mining rights by a Chinese company, in the Wee MacGregor area, halfway between Cloncurry and Mount Isa.
Owner of the Wee MacGregor Mine, Cape Lambert Resources, said they had not been approached by any companies.
“We are not aware of any purchases in the area. We have a representative out at the mine this week and has not heard anything as of yet,” a spokesperson said.
A Chinese backed gold mining company, Aus Gold Mining Group, visited Mount Isa April last year to consider buying the disused Wee MacGregor mine.
Aus Gold Mining Group denied the purchase of any rights in the Wee MacGregor area and said they are not operating near Mount Isa.
