The Mount Isa Youth Parliament will be opened by the Speaker of the Queensland Parliament, Peter Wellington tomorrow morning.
Students Sophie Greenhalgh and Ella Coghlan will be representing Saint Joseph’s Catholic Primary School.
“We’ve been chosen to go to youth parliament, and we are on the Government side,” Ella said.
“We’re going against what the opposition has said about school going from nine and ending at one six days a week.”
The girls said they would get show off their competitive sides at the parliamentary event.
“I’ve got a few friends on the opposing side from other schools,” Sophie said.
Topics on discussion will include healthy eating measures, and education and employment opportunities for students.
The schools involved in tomorrow’s Youth Parliament are Burketown State School, Central State School, Townview State School, Barkly Highway State Schoo, Happy Valley State School, Healy State School, St Kieran’s Catholic Primary School, and St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School.
