Pulling the plug
I plead guilty to being a Bob Katter supporter in the past but have pulled the plug on him recently.

I agree with his wife and family that he should not be going round again.
It seems clear to locals that his best years are long gone, and he is merely having a loan of us trying to milk another three years from us.
It is not a good look when pollies hang around too long, no matter who they are, and reading some of Bob’s latest messages he has really lost the plot.

Thank you from Eisteddfod Committee
On behalf of the Mount Isa Eisteddfod Committee, I would like to extend sincere thanks to the Mount Isa community.
This year saw the staging of the 50th annual event which fosters music, dance and drama performances for children and adults.
This year was no different to any other which saw a small committee supported by wonderful volunteers.
We would really like to acknowledge the following:
- The parents who encouraged and supported their children.
- Our talented music and drama teachers.
- The schools who supported group performances.
- The many who chaired sessions, sold tickets and programs, worked back stage and wrote endless certificates and comments.
- The staff of Mount Isa Civic Centre whose service was hospitable, generous and professional.
- The Outback Cafe who provided exceedingly tasty morsels for our small celebration.
- The hardworking committee members under the leadership of Mary Jane Caldwell and Jo Mills.
Take a bow all of you.
Mount Isa children, particularly, are fortunate to grow up in such an encouraging environment.
50 years done and dusted!
2017 plans are underway.

Handgun Fury
Another step by the forces of bureaucracy has been taken in the name of safety or some other ‘do good’ intention.
I have no doubt that the intentions are good but the result once again is that currently innocent graziers and farmers will be made into outlaws.
Handguns are the latest target of our police minister.
There is little evidence to suggest that the practice of using these firearms for defence against the incursion of feral and other animals in the bush has led to any negative effects on society but here we go again.
Thousands of handguns will have to be handed in or sold.
I need a good pistol when dealing with pigs at close range but this will not cut it with the current minister Bill Byrne.
I doubt that he has ever faced the charge of a 100 kilogram sow at close quarters or had to put down that favourite horse out on the flat.
Here is hoping that common sense will prevail.
Peter Williams,
Rockybar.
