Scott was hospitalised on Thursday night and assistant coach Darren Crocker will take over the reins in his absence.

Kangaroos football director Geoff Walsh explained that Scott was in such a state that he was forced to miss the flight to Tasmania on Thursday.

"Brad was not feeling well on his way to the airport yesterday and was forced to return home," Walsh said.

"His condition worsened in the evening and he was attended to by the club doctor before being admitted to hospital for treatment and observation."

Scott stayed in hospital overnight and was not able to travel on Friday morning.

It's not the first time Scott has been forced from the coaches' box.

Last year the former Brisbane Lions premiership player was sidelined for six weeks due to back surgery.

This is the third time that Crocker has filled the breach as caretaker coach for the Kangaroos.

In 2009 he was called upon for 10 matches following the sacking of Dean Laidley and last year he covered for Scott.

Friday night will be Crocker's 15th match in charge of North Melbourne.
