Riewoldt's left knee was swollen after the game and although the club is hopeful the scan will clear him of structural damage, he remains in doubt to face Carlton at Etihad Stadium on Sunday.
The skipper's injury was one of several for the Saints, with young gun Hugh Goddard and No.1 draft pick Paddy McCartin also going down.
The club confirmed that Goddard ruptured his Achilles, with coach Alan Richardson admitting he could be out for 12 months.
McCartin suffered concussion and was sent to hospital, but was discharged soon after and flew home with the team.
He'll have to pass concussion tests this week to be considered for Sunday's game against the Blues.
The nasty collision, in which the young forward clashed heads with teammate Jack Newnes before hitting his head against Crow Luke Brown, was McCartin's second concussion of the season, after a similar incident against Collingwood.
Carlton have their own injury concerns, with ruckman Matthew Kreuzer suffering concussion in Saturday's win over Brisbane.
The big man will be monitored during the week and will have to pass the appropriate tests before being considered for selection.
North Melbourne defender Sam Wright will have surgery on his injured ankle later this week and is expected to miss between six and eight weeks. The defender suffered a high left ankle sprain in the third quarter of Friday's win over the Tigers and was forced to sit out the rest of the game.
North coach Brad Scott returned to Arden Street on Monday and will sit in the coach's box for this Saturday's clash with Geelong.
Scott watched Friday's win from hospital after being diagnosed with a viral illness.
The injury curse hit the Tigers before the first bounce, when defender Dylan Grimes was a late withdrawal with hamstring tightness.
The club remains hopeful that if he trains fully, Grimes will play on Sunday against Gold Coast.
Things went from bad to worse in the first quarter when defender Steve Morris went down clutching his knee. Scans have confirmed Morris has ruptured his ACL, meaning his season is over. He will have surgery in the coming weeks.
Ben Griffiths has a lateral sprain in his right ankle, while Nick Vlastuin came off with concussion after a collision with Jarrad Waite. Both remain in doubt for Sunday's clash.
Hawthorn star Jack Gunston had to play out the game on Saturday against Melbourne in pain after having his right ankle stomped on.
Gunston looked proppy after the win over Melbourne and given they play a depleted Essendon on Friday night, he may be rested.
