The NRL has issued the Blues with a "please explain" notice over a series of incidents in the fiery aftermath to the controversial opening State of Origin encounter.

The governing body wrote to the NSWRL seeking their side of the story in relation to a number of matters, most notably Blues coach Laurie Daley venting over the performance of referees Ben Cummins and Gerard Sutton.
Daley unloaded on the pair, believing they shouldn't control the rematch in Brisbane on June 22, but it wasn't the sole reason for the correspondence.
Daley and three other NSW officials are said to have sprayed NRL chief medical officer Paul Bloomfield in the ANZ Stadium tunnel after the match.
The Blues had been told Bloomfield would be acting as an independent doctor to monitor concussions to ensure the NRL protocols were properly followed.
However, NSWRL officials were livid after Queensland centre Justin O'Neill was allowed to play on without an assessment on after seemingly becoming dazed following a 32nd minute collision.
It's understood Daley, NSW team doctor Nathan Gibbs, NSWRL chief executive David Trodden and head of football Barrie-Jon Mather sought answers over than and other concussion incidents from Bloomfield after the siren.
It's understood the letter to Blues officials called for an explanation as to why they were late in submitting their final team list, a move which had repercussions for host broadcaster Channel Nine.
The team also entered the playing arena later than the designated time, both prior to the game and after the half-time break. The Maroons were also not compliant in terms of running onto ANZ Stadium on schedule, with the QRL also contacted to explain their tardiness.
The usually mild-mannered Daley believed several critical calls, most notably a no-try ruling after Josh Morris claimed to have crossed the stripe, again went against his team. In his post-match press conference, he called for Sutton and Cummins to be replaced "based on history and based on that game".
The pair have officiated over the past five interstate encounters and the Blues have not won a penalty count in that time, with Queensland leading the tally 41-26. NRL boss Todd Greenberg has made it clear the NRL won't be dictated when it comes to the appointment of officials.
Coaches who criticise the referees at NRL level are usually fined $10,000 for a first offence, although that figure can rise significantly for repeat offenders.
