But the suspended Port Adelaide big man says he is in a "pretty good headspace" ahead of his return next year.

Ryder and Port teammate Angus Monfries were two of the 34 current and former Bombers banned for the duration of the 2016 season by the Court of Arbitration for Sport - having been found guilty of taking banned peptide Thymosin beta-4 as part of the Dons' 2012 supplements program.

While the players have appealed to the Swiss Federal Court, Ryder questioned whether they should have done more four years ago.

"When you look back on it, maybe we should've asked a lot more questions. We're a little bit to blame. But that's all in the past now and I'm not too fussed about it," Ryder told Triple M Adelaide on Saturday.

"We just thought 'the club is telling us everything is fine' and you don't question it."

Ryder, 28, shifted to the Power after the 2014 season, having previously feared the potential effects of the supplements on his unborn baby.

He said he had trusted the Dons to act in his best interests. "For myself, I came straight out of high school, drafted straight to Essendon and I spent 10 years there. You become pretty close with everyone there and you don't second-guess any decisions and stuff that people put forward to you."

But Ryder insisted he no-longer harboured ill-feeling towards his former club.

"I don't want to be holding grudges in the future. I'm just happy being in Adelaide, I'm a Port man right now so that's fine with me.

"I've been through stages throughout the ban and at the moment it's just around the corner for me now – returning to the club.

"The past couple of weeks I've been training really hard and just getting back into really good shape."

Port chief executive Keith Thomas said last month that the club had sought to support Ryder, who had been "a little bit lost".

While Ryder is contracted until the end of 2018, Monfries' future at Alberton remains unclear, with his existing contract expiring at season's end.
