Richmond Turf Club president David Fox said the largest fields for the year assembled for the meeting and thanked all the trainers and riders for their attendance.
“I’m extremely happy with how the two days went, we had excellent visitor support and really good exhibit numbers,” Mr Fox said.
“I’d especially like to thank our sponsors who continue to back the event through the good times and the bad,” he said.
“The turf club and field days committee’s coordinate the event together and we work in great unison, which is why it’s wonderful to see it all pay off so well.
Mr Fox said the Richmond Turf Club will have three more meetings this year on August 13, October 1 and October 22 which are open for all to attend.
After the races concluded the ringers challenge took centre stage which saw the brave two-person team’s of contestants involved test their bodies to the limits of their endurance.
The event involved rolling up a swag, chasing a Weet-Bix with a shot of three egg yokes then trundling their partner in a wheelbarrow to an disassembled cattle pen which needed to be put up then brought back down and packed neatly before sprinting back to the finish line in the ‘barrow.
Needless to say some stomachs had trouble coping with the process involved, stomachs that were tested further for the three pairs of “lucky” finalists who then had to try and hold on for an eight second ride or longer on the mechanical bull with their combined times determining the winners.
After the dust and reflux had settled it was the dynamic duo of Joe Worley and Dean Sharrock who prevailed taking home a beauty of an esky and $120 each for their troubles.
Guests partied well into the wee hours after the official events had concluded with Beaudesert’s Ross Weber providing the musical accompaniment through the night.
