Society President Lesley Ann Peterson said the Mount Isa Show was set to show off some of the region’s best cultural displays.
“The Welcome to Country is on at the opening ceremony at one o’clock on Friday, and Mayor McCulloch is opening the show this year.
“Outside the Pavillion we have entertainment, so there will be music, there’ll be all the schools with Irish dancing, Highland dancing, the School of Dance will be dancing, there’ll be Indigenous dancing,” Ms Peterson said.
She said the weekend would also see Professional Bull Riding and the Australian National Bronco Branding Championship.
“Once you pay to get through the gate everything is yours to go to, so you’re not paying extra to go to PBR, you’re not paying more to get into Bronco Branding, you’re not paying for any entertainment,” Ms Peterson said.
“We try to put as much as we can back into the community.
“We support the Rodeo Queens, we support Cancer House, and Leukaemia Foundation,” she said.
Showman’s Guild Australiasia representative Elwin Bell said Bell’s Amusements had provided rides for the Mount Isa Show since it started.
“We’ve been coming into the country for a long time, we’ve nearly been doing shows for a hundred years, so we’ve been coming to Mount Isa for a long, long time.
“The only difference with Mount Isa is that we have lovely red dirt to put the rides up in, but it’s part of the outback and it goes with the show,” Mr Bell said.
The Mount Isa Show kicks off on Friday at 8am.
Tickets to the show are $25 for adults, $10 for children and pensioners, and $65 for families.
