The bootcamp, was held as part of GaleForce’s regular Super Saturday Bootcamp sessions, attracted 22 participants who ran, jumped, push-upped and squatted their way through an hour of fitness based activities to take part in the fundraiser.
GaleForce Fitness owner Sarah Gale said she was passionate about Mount Isa community and wanted to share her business success by holding fundraising bootcamps for local charities.
“Since starting GaleForce I’ve had so much support from the community and holding fundraising bootcamps seemed like a great opportunity to continue to promote health and fitness in Mount Isa and support a worthy charity,” Ms Gale said.
“Paws, Hoofs and Claws do such an amazing job within our community, and one of our personal trainers Jess O’Connor has a rescue dog, so it’s something that is close to our hearts.”
Following the session, Ms Gale matched the $225 raised and doubled the donation to $450.
Paws, Hoofs and Claws representatives and foster carers Tami Neundorf-Shorter, Paula Boon and Bettina Wenzel attended the session with several foster dogs. PHC spokesperson Paula Boon said this was a fantastic result and would assist to cover the costs of further care and rescue of animals in need.
“On average, it costs between $250 to $400 to rescue an animal from the pound, plus on top of the pound cost we pay extra for vaccination, worming and vet check, so the money raised this morning will help us to save the lives of more animals which is simply amazing and a great help to us,” Ms Boon said.
An even happier ending to this story, GaleForce trainer Brooke McArdle, fell in love with a foster dog that attended the fundraiser bootcamp.
Foster dog, Slate, is the last of a litter of six puppies that were dumped out on a dirt track near Lake Moondarra late in 2015. After recovering, Slate had the misfortune to break her leg badly after falling off a patio and then some further bad luck when an adoption for her fell through.
Brooke and Slate took an instant shine to each other, however Brooke thought she wouldn’t raise the funds to adopt Slate. Thanks to Ms Gale and several of Brooke’s other friends, Brooke is now the proud owner of Slate and is planning a lifetime of adventures.
