The NT government chose Jemena to build and operate the 623 km pipeline between Tennant Creek and Mount Isa at a cost of $800m.
Sheldon Harvey, Intertek’s Business Development Manager for Industry Services, said they would provide expertise at the point of fabrication, deploying a team of quality inspectors to oversee manufacture of the pipework including quality of welding, steel composition, compliance with Australian standards and adherence to engineering specifications.
“We are proud to support Jemena in meeting the project quality and schedule requirements to have first gas flowing by 2018,” Mr Harvey said.
“The award of this inspection contract is testament to our experience in the development of major oil and gas projects, and the result of our long-term relationship with Jemena.”
Mr Harvey said Intertek’s technical and qualified inspectors would be positioned at Jemena’s suppliers and supported by a project leadership team in Sydney and Melbourne.
“They will be involved at various points of the project to provide quality assurance leadership in achieving key milestones and mitigation of any potential issues, which may arise during the manufacturing process,” he said.
