Brumbies flyer Aidan Toua scored four tries on the opening day of the tournament, including a double against Toulon, as the Canberra sit hit its groove on the island nation in the Indian Ocean.

The Brumbies beat French glamour club Toulon, the Western Force and an Italian All Stars side to cruise through the first stage.

The beat Toulon 17-10, had to come from behind to beat the Force 19-10 and then finished the day with a 40-0 thumping of the All Stars.

The club is intent on claiming the world club 10s trophy after being denied in extra time in the inaugural event in 2014.

"You don't come to these things to muck around, we're here to win it," said Jordan Smiler.

"You want to enjoy things as well, but we are doing all we can to win it and find those combinations.

"You feel it out in the first game and then progressively get better throughout the tournament. We want to build towards the finals and then implement the things we've identified what we need to work on."

Toua scored in the first minute of the game and then sealed the result with another superb solo effort after the break to defeat a young Toulon side that was missing its glamour star power.

They backed it up with a come from behind win against the Western Force in the second game, scoring 19 unanswered points to win back to back games and go top of the pool.

Mauritius is a world away from the cold, wet and windy conditions of Canberra as temperatures hovered above 20 degrees with 80 per cent humidity.

The games are doubly important for the players, who are using their trip to ramp up their preparations for when Super Rugby resumes on July 1.

Toua has been the Brumbies' first choice fullback for the entire season and has played more games this year than he has in any other season of his career.

"It's difficult to get used to the 10s but to get a win is a really good start, even though it wasn't as good as we could play," Toua said.

"It's always good to score tries ... but they were few and far between at that game. Beating a club like Toulon is always a good confidence booster.

"This is the first year in a while that I've been able to string 80-minute performances together, so it's been about getting combinations with the guys.

"Playing in Mauritius gives me a chance to play footy, keep the ball in hand and keep improving. Hopefully we can keep doing that and finish off the Super Rugby season well.

"[Brumbies coach Stephen Larkham] has given me a lot of confidence by picking me constantly. Super Rugby is different to Europe and I'm definitely feeling a lot more comfortable out there.

"These two days in Mauritius are good for the club in general to build some momentum to go into Super Rugby finals."

The Brumbies monstered an inexperienced Toulon side in the opening minutes and Toua turned on the speed to breeze past defenders and score the opener.

The Brumbies are regarded as one of the favourites for the title, given their squad boasts plenty of Super Rugby experience.

Toulon's line-up was unrecognisable compared to the stars they roll out weekly in the Top 14 competition in France.

Matt Giteau, Quade Cooper, Ma'a Nonu, James O'Connor et al were no-shows as one of the richest clubs in world rugby focused on their Top 14 finals campaign.

That said, the young side fought back and Jacquelain Teiua pounced on a loose pass to level the score as the stiff wind played havoc with kicks and handling.

The Brumbies stabilised with a long-range try to Jordan Smiler and then Toua got his second after half-time to fend off Toulon's late charge.

"We were a bit rusty and we blew the cobwebs out ... we were standing off a bit, but it's a good start," said Brumbies coach Dan McKellar.

"The balls are different to what we're used to, they're blowing around like a feather out there, so the first option has to be to carry and then take advantage when the defence isn't set.

"The reality is that Aidan is one of our go-to guys out there and he's got to take the space when it comes."
