He not only has returned to familiar shores to haunt the Wallabies, but Eddie Jones – at least temporarily – has pinched arguably Australian rugby league's greatest player as a ruthless England side promised to heap more pain on Michael Cheika's men.

Jones enlisted the 13-man game's eighth Immortal, Andrew Johns, to lend his knowledge to English playmakers Owen Farrell and George Ford in a training session at Coogee Oval on Monday, five days before the tourists take aim at a series clean sweep in Sydney.

Johns, who has worked as a consultant with several NRL clubs and is enjoying a stint at the Sydney Roosters, had been in regular contact with Jones before England's tour of Australia.

"I've always admired his skills as a player and he's got a lot of knowledge and a lot he can teach people," Jones said. "We'd been chatting for a while about the possibility of him coming to do a bit of work. [Monday] was the ideal day when we had quite a bit of downtime in training.

"Guys like Andrew Johns did touch the ball 50 or 60 times a game. They had fixed defenders, [had to] know when to drift and know when to take a little unders line, how you use your eyes and where you position your hands.

"For those guys to have that lesson this afternoon is invaluable and they will remember it for the rest of their lives."

Jones said he hadn't thought about plans for Johns to work with his squad in the northern hemisphere. But while his side have done all their talking on the field, Jones is keen to keep the momentum going off it with Johns providing a couple of pointers before the Allianz Stadium showdown.

England hold an unassailable lead in the three-match series after easing past Australia 23-7 on a shifty AAMI Park surface in Melbourne on Saturday night.

Lauded by New Zealand coach Steve Hansen as having comprehensively won the battle of the mind games with Cheika, Jones hinted the coach of the world No.1 side might have had an ulterior motive for his remarks.

"Steve's got the Rugby Championship coming up [featuring Australia]," Jones said.

Pressed further, he said: "I haven't tried to win a war of words. I'm a coach and you guys ask me questions and I give you answers. You guys decide whether it's mind games, whether I'm being a bully or whether I'm trying to be clever or I'm just an idiot. You decide that ... not me."

But Jones made it clear England had no designs on taking the foot off the pedal in the dead rubber against a wounded Wallabies.

"We want to be the best team in the world and to win this series 3-0 indicates we have the right to be the second best team in the world and then we take it from there," he said.

"We want to play our best 80 [minutes] this week. We'd like to get our best 80 because we still haven't seen the best of this team. We're on a learning curve and we want to keep improving."

Flanker James Haskell is battling a foot problem to be fit for the third Test, but Jones pledged to pick his best possible 23.
