Tourism and Events Queensland describes the event as unique and the only one of its kind in the North West. The event draws in approximately 1000 people across the weekend.
The event is held in a shire with a variety of unusual minerals which be displayed at the stalls.
Gold, copper, garnets and amethyst are some of those minerals.
The Cloncurry and District Historical and Museum Society organises Rockhana. The organisation’s secretary Margarete Cotter said the 12th Rockhana will have traders who have traveled from across the country to display their wares.
“We have people selling jewelry supplies, rocks, minerals, we will have a jewelry evaluator, two people selling opals, and there will be local gemstones,” Ms Cotter said.
“Our president John Walton will talk about how to find gold, and show people how to pan for gold. We’ve also got the president of the lapidary club doing a geology display , which is new this year, it’s the first time.
“And we’re looking at doing some treasure hunts for the children.”
The event begins at 10am on Friday, July 1. The Cloncurry Shire Mayor Greg Campbell is scheduled to speak at the event at 11am, Saturday, July 2. The event is supported by Ernest Henry Mine, the council, Post Office Hotel, and the Mitakoodi Aboriginal Corporation.
