Russian Revolution, who had to rely on the stewards for his first win,   was commanding in his second, winning by two lengths, and it has Snowden eyeing  better races.

"I think he could be definitely up with those better horses," Snowden said. "I will give him a couple of weeks off and bring him back for a race like the Rosebud.

"There are a few nice two-year-olds coming through towards the end of the season and he is one of them.

"If he can measure up he could race through into a race like [the Golden] Rose, but he has to earn it."

Russian Revolution, in the China Horse Club colours, held the fence and kicked through coming to the turn and cleared out from his rivals.

"He is a really nice horse and he went through his gears very quickly and there was a little bit left there," jockey Rory Hutchings said. "If there was something to go with him he would have found more."

It was the first leg of  a winning double for Snowden and his son Paul with Not A Gypsy living up to the stable's opinion of him later in the afternoon.

"We thought he was a Queensland Derby horse and he just didn't have any luck in the lead-ups, so we kept him here," Snowden said.

"He was unlucky the other day here but he showed the staying potential we knew he had there."
