A game that started looking like a Curry blow-out developed into a second half arm wrestle that the Devils seemed to have in the bag until Cloncurry found one last effort to grab the win at the death.
Both sides went at each other from the start.
However a routine win for the green machine looked academic early in the game as the Eagles posted the first three tries of the contest inside 25 minutes.
Wanderers didn’t deserve to be 16-0 down as they had chances of their own but they had no early answers whenever the Curry wingers put on the afterburners,
But the Devils gradually began to impose their will on the game and got their first four pointer on 27 minutes which, when converted, made it 16-6.
Some Curry indiscipline gave away a set of penalties which led to Wanderers’ second try a few minutes later but the visitors steadied to grab the last try of the half.
At the break it was Cloncurry 20, Wanderers 10 but it was still anyone’s game.
Wanderers closed the gap to 20-16 early in the second half but Curry swiftly responded when they won a penalty after the restart.
On 52 minutes a Curry side down a player who was hobbling off the field conceded another converted try and now there was just two points in it at 24-22.
A tiring Curry just couldn’t keep the ball at this stage of the game.
Although Wanderers wasted numerous penalty opportunities the writing was on the wall and they took the lead for the first time with a try on 61 minutes to make it 26-24.
The lead swung back and forth as the sides swapped tries but with less than two minutes on the clock Wanderers had possession and led 32-30.
A fatal mistake saw them give the ball away with 90 seconds to go and Curry duly punished them in the corner to win the game in dramatic fashion.
They missed the after the siren kick but it didn’t matter, the final score read Cloncurry 34, Wanderers 32.
