The Brexit effect

How will Brexit affect rugby league? Early indications are fair-to-middling. NRL players will find it much harder to get a start in Super League. Aussies and Kiwis who circumvent the quota by using Pacific Island passports, under the Kolpak Ruling, won't be able to do so anymore. And Catalans are now the wealthiest club in the comp after the crash of the pound – but they'd better get used to customs queues every second week.

England calling?

Trent Hodkinson, Josh Morris and Brett Morris, to varying degrees, are each chances of playing for NSW in Origin III. So it should come as no surprise they have said little about reports linking them to Wayne Bennett's England. Officially, all Origin players must be available for Australia.

Canterbury initially ruled out Brett but the man himself texted Set of Six saying he didn't go to Bennett's Sydney England meeting but is eligible. Hodkinson on Saturday said he had spoken with Bennett but would not elaborate. We're yet to hear from Josh.

Inspired by Riddell

Where did the Ennis celebration, which saw him walk over to the perimeter fence and pretend the ball was a camera while he posed for selfies with fans, come from?

He told NRL.com it was inspired by Mark Riddell jumping the fence and applauding himself a decade ago. Ennis also said he wouldn't be showing theatricality in future. "I feel like I'm Benjamin Button," the hooker told the ABC, "I'm getting younger."

Tough love

Warriors forward Charlie Gubb, a rising NRL cult figure, was asked by a club digital man how he felt playing against former roommate Chad Townsend on Saturday night. "It would have been good if Chad came through the middle and the shoulder charge wasn't banned or I put him above the horizontal," Gubb said. "But that wasn't the case. I had to be a bit disciplined. He's good, Chad. Love him." Still no news on what Gubb would like to do to players he doesn't love.
