Why NRL must use automatic sin bin for all forms of foul play, not just punching

Punching was quite rightly banned from rugby league a couple of years ago in an attempt to reassure a vast Origin TV audience that naked brutality would not greet Little Johnny down at the corner park. But what message did the lack of in-game action against Sam Thaiday for a spear tackle last Wednesday send that same audience?
