Mount Isa showgirl, Priscilla McCrindle and Longreach showgirl, Tiffany Davey were the only two representatives in Winton on Saturday competing for the title of sub-chamber representative.
Both ladies conducted an interview, luncheon and a informal dinner while being judged on etiquette, presentation, conversation, knowledge about their local show and knowledge about local, state, national and international news and politics.
After the proceedings the judges announced the winner as Longreach Showgirl Tiffany Davey, who will continue onto state finals at the Ekka Queensland Royal Show.
Ms Davey is a governess on a station near Longreach. Ms Davey moved to Queensland in the last two years from Western Australia where her family also manage a station.
Ms Davey will represent Longreach and Central and North West Queensland when she attends state finals in August.
Despite returning to Mount Isa as runner-up, Ms McCrindle was proud to have represented Mount Isa.
“With Tiffany receiving the honour of representing sub-chamber, I was disappointed. Although I am positive Tiffany will do our region proud,” she said.
“It was lovely getting to meet members from the sub-chamber and meet the committee members prior to judging.
“It gave me a bit of insight to the work required behind the scenes to plan a show and bring it to life. It gave me a number of ideas to implement at Mount Isa Show.
Ms McCrindle said the competition helped to rekindle her passion for the community as well as for the Mount Isa Show.
“I hope to get more involved among the Mount Isa Show committee, and hopefully bring along some new ideas that can be implemented to help build the show up more,” Ms McCrindle said.
“I hope to make myself more open to the community and get ideas from the people back to the committee as a way to give the community a sense of ownership of the show and ultimately get them more involved.”
Ms McCrindle said she had enjoyed her showgirl journey so far and looked forward to conducting showgirl duties throughout the year.
