The Mount Isa City Council rodeo banner design competition will be judged this week after every local school submitted over 400 entries. One student from primary school and one student from high school will be chosen this week, by local artist Rowena Paine-Murphy. Each winner will have their design placed on banners which will be hung on the CBD’s flag poles every year in August.

The winners will also receive a three day family rodeo pass and a massive art pack for their school.
Mayor Joyce McCulloch said the competition was aimed at involving community members in the rodeo’s atmosphere, and the city’s involvement.
“I believe that we have got an enormous amount of talent within our community and I believe that it is vital for our youth to contribute to the social structure of Mount Isa,” Cr McCulloch said.
Cr McCulloch said she thought it was important that Mount Isa students had the opportunity to express their talent.
“Our students are an important part in helping develop and enhance major event such as rodeo and it gives them an opportunity to understand the history and where the event came from, and to be a part of its future.”
