The Careflight helicopter arrived in Gympie, north of the Sunshine Coast, just after noon to fly the girl to the Lady Cilento Children's Hospital for further treatment.

She suffered severe burns to her upper body and smoke inhalation before firefighters dragged her to safety after she was trapped inside the bedroom of the Monkland home.

They were praised for their bravery on Monday morning as police and fire investigators worked to determine the cause of the blaze.

"Crews were brave in their attempts to extricate that person and they were successful in doing so," Queensland Fire and Emergency Services Sunshine Coast area commander Bernie Massingham told the Gympie Times.

"It took more than 15 firefighters half an hour to extinguish the blaze."

Three others in the house managed to get out safely but the 12-year-old was trapped inside a bedroom and had to be rushed to Gympie Hospital in a critical condition.

The helicopter touched down at Lady Cilento Children's Hospital just before 2pm.

A Queensland girl is being airlifted to a Brisbane hospital with critical burns after being rescued from a blazing house near Gympie.

The girl has severe burns to her upper body and also suffered smoke inhalation in the Monkland fire, which broke out about 3.45am.

Three others in the house managed to get out safely but the 12-year-old was trapped inside a bedroom.

Police said the girl was one of four at the house, but the three others got out safely.

Paramedics took the girl Gympie Hospital in critical condition.

She is expected to be flown to Brisbane later in the day.
